Dussehra is coming on 2nd October 2025. India is a land of festivals where unity in diversity is the symbol of our nation. Similarly, Dussehra is a vibrant and significant Indian festival which is celebrated in the month of October/November every year across the country. It is a Hindu festival that the Hindu community celebrate with enthusiasm in to commemorate the victory of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana. 

Moreover, on this day we burn effigies of demon king Ravana. Above all, we celebrate it as a victory of truth and justice over evil and injustice. Lord Rama killed the demon king Ravan and freed the people from his atrocity and exploitation from his atrocity rules. 

Victory of Lord Rama over Ravana 

As we know, we celebrate it to commemorate the victory of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana. Furthermore, this epic battle symbolizes the triumph of righteousness over evil. It is the great victory of Lord Rama over the strongest Demon king Ravan. Moreover, he had great powers blessed by Lord Shiva and was one of the smartest brains. However, in fluence of his own proud and ego he had faced to death by Lord Rama. Therefore, we get inspiration from this victory that truth and morality are always the better virtues to run the world. Everyone should take inspiration from this epic battle. 

Dussehra is also Celebrated as Vijayadashami 

This festival, also known as Vijayadashami, marks the triumph of good over evil and has a rich historical and cultural significance. It coincides with the end of Navaratri, a nine-night festival dedicated to Goddess Durga. Her victory over the buffalo demon Mahishasura signifies the power of femininity and the removal of obstacles. This festival is also important for the change of climate and farmers collect their Kharif crops and get preparations for sowing new Rabi crops. On the festival market illuminated with lights and burn effigies of demon king and celebrate a grand celebration with zeal and happiness.

Goddess Durga’s Victory over Mahishasura 

In many parts of our country Dussehra coincides with the end of Navaratri, a nine- night festival dedicated to Goddess Durga. Her victory over the buffalo demon Mahishsura signifies to the power of femininity and the removal of obstacles and freed the common and innocent people from the atrocity of Mahishasura.  

It is a total 10-day festival. The nine-night celebrated as the nine roles of Goddess Parvati’s incarnation and the tenth day celebrated as Vijayadashami as the victory over evil. 

The Ramlila (The Traditional Performance of The Ramayan) 

In many parts of India its celebrations often include Ramlila performances where scenes from the Ramayan are enacted. Here, people depict the scenes of Lord Rama’ struggle in forest and 14 Years exile, the destruction of demons and living with simplicity. Moreover, it also delivers a message about respecting elders, teachers, and scholars. Above all, it says that the bad must pay for their wrong deeds. 

Burning of Effigies of Demon King Ravana & Others 

This is an ancient tradition of Dussehra is the burning of effigies of Ravana, Meghnad, and Kumbhakarna. This ritual symbolizes the destruction of evil forces. Through this festival the young generation is taught to follow the path of truth and kindness and live a healthy life with the cultivation of manners and ethical values in their nature. 

The Importance of Truth and Honesty 

Lord Rama’s adherence to truth and his unwavering commitment to dharma(duty) serve as powerful lessons to the young minds. By the example of Lord Rama’s simplicity, sacrifice and follow the duty guided his father and their suffered a lot of obstacles and faced the demons with courage taught us the importance of honesty, duty, morality and ethical values and try to follow the path of truth and kindness.

Dussehra is festival which taught us the importance of social responsibility making the great effect on young minds. The celebration of nine- night Goddess Durga programs and The Program of Ramlila at the different parts of the country all these programs taught us the lesson of humanity, kindness, honesty and the values of morality, ethical values and truth. Similarly, its emphasis on the victory over evil forces and the great importance of social responsibility of an individual.

Therefore, it is a festival that refines our nature by teaching the great values of moral duty and social responsibility.

India is a nation that different cultures and different languages and dresses are accepted according to their symbol of traditions. That’s why it makes India a hub of Cultures that shows unity in diversity across the country. As an example, in South India Dussehra is celebrated as Vijayadashami while in east India celebrate it as Dussehra. But the purpose of the celebration is a symbol of victory over evil forces. Moreover, it teaches us the importance of truth, kindness and honesty and cultivate good habits in nature. End of the day, it demands love and brotherhood among all the inhabitants of the world.

The celebration of Dussehra signifies the conquest over evil, light over darkness and wisdom over ignorance. It was first celebrated to mark the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana. It was the day when Lord Rama defeated the Demon King Ravana after a long battle in Lanka. Furthermore, people also celebrate the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon king Mahisasura. The festive synonyms have Sanskrit roots means, Dash+hara or the defeat of the sun and Vijaya+dashami, which translates into victory on the tenth day.
